Scopos LLC, the makers of Orion, Athena, and Rezults, announced today the widespread deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) to generate competition press releases for local, regional, and national competitions. This initiative, which compliments Scopos’ goal of using technology to turn shooting into a spectator sport, marks a significant step forward in making shooting more accessible and engaging for athletes, coaches, and spectators alike.
In the shooting sports, traditional result lists can be difficult for the average viewer to interpret. Press releases play a vital role in translating raw scores into compelling narratives that highlight athlete achievements, team play, and match significance. By adding a human element, well crafted press releases help bridge the gap between data and storytelling—making results more understandable and shareable
Producing these narratives has long been a challenge for the shooting community. Most clubs operate with limited resources and do not have access to even amateur sports writers. Even at the national level, who do have professional writers on staff, writing press releases is time consuming and costly. Scopos recognizes that artificial intelligence offers a scalable, cost effective solution—bringing professional quality storytelling to clubs that previously had no access to it.
Scopos has already begun using AI to generate 60 to 70 game recaps each week for the National Air Rifle League. A recent example includes this Week One matchup between Mariner AJROTC and Space Coast SFJROTC. In addition, AI is being used to produce weekly league-wide recaps for the National Air Rifle League. Not to mention biweekly summaries for the Intercollegiate Rifle League. These efforts represent the first widespread use of AI generated press content within the shooting sports.
While Scopos is not the first to experiment with AI to generate shooting competition press releases, it is the first to apply it at scale across dozens of shooting matches weekly. The company acknowledges the ongoing debate around AI in artistic work and pledges full transparency—clearly labeling all AI generated content (this press release was itself, in part, generated by AI). Scopos believes the benefits of accessibility, consistency, and reach far outweigh the concerns, and is committed to using AI responsibly to elevate the visibility of the shooting sports.
