Each year, the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) invests in the future of junior shooting athletes by awarding scholarships to graduating high school seniors. Last year, the CMP provided $1,000,000 in support for college, university, or trade school education. The program is continuing to grow, and in a recent conversation, CMP Board Chairman Jerry O’Keefe expressed a desire to see even more junior athletes apply.

These scholarships range from one-year $1,000 awards to multi-year renewable scholarships worth up to $40,000, making this collectively the most significant youth-shooting scholarship programs in the country.

By taking steps now, at the start of the shooting season, Scopos software can help athletes in their application process. By creating an individual Scopos account and linking their match scores, applicants will have a comprehensive, ready-made shooting resume prepared for them by the time applications close in March.

Who Can Apply?

CMP scholarships are open to high‑school seniors who:

• Are U.S. citizens.
• Are of good moral character.
• Are graduating in 2027.
• Have been accepted to a college, university, or trade school.
• Have demonstrable marksmanship competition experience.

How Scopos Software Helps Athletes Apply

One of the application requirements is to “demonstrate marksmanship competition experience.” Scopos software can build an athlete's shooting resume automatically for them. By linking their individual Scopos account, through the Orion software, applicants can generate a list of every competition they participate in on Rezults’ Score History. This works for all discipline types (rifle, pistol, shotgun, silhouette, and more) and for all competitions.

• If they do not already have one, athletes can sign up for a free individual Scopos Account.
• In every match they compete in, home or away, athletes should ask the Match Director to link their account to their scores. Athletes just need to provide their email address to add to their entry in Orion. As a bonus, when an account is linked, athletes may receive Range Reporter press releases from each match they compete in.
• Optionally, athletes may create a public athlete profile.
• When it comes time to apply for a scholarship, athletes can log into Rezults Score History and download an Excel spreadsheet of all their scores.
