As teams duke it out going into Week 4 of the National Air Pistol and Air Rifle New Shooter Leagues, some new contenders are showing their potential at the tops of the Leagues. Returning champs NoVA Sharpshooters currently have 1st place in the Air Pistol League, but Cos Cob Revolver and Rifle Club is very firmly in 2nd place behind them.
In the New Shooter League, Fontana MCJROTC has a handle on 1st place, and Martin Luther King NJROTC took back the 3rd place spot last week. Norview NJROTC and Lafayette Gun Club are separated in 5th and 6th places by just 0.2 League Points.
In this Air Pistol matchup between two Michigan teams, Capital Area Sportsmen's League defeated their League neighbor in Week 3. Capital Area Sportsmen's League now stands 2 - 1 for this season, and has been improving their score every week so far. In Week 4, they will shoot against Cos Cob Revolver and Rifle Club to try and move up the ranks from 5th place.
James Madison AJROTC won their 2nd match of the season against Redmond MCJROTC, giving them a 2 - 1 record and settling them into 12th place going into Week 4. In the 2024 New Shooter League, James Madison finished in 3rd place with a 7 - 1 record. In their 3 matches so far this season, they have been improving by at least 20 points per game. They are just a few League Points out of the top 10 with 5 more matches to go, so this will be a team to watch going forward. James Madison will have byes the next 2 weeks.
JFK AJROTC defeated Nile C. Kinnick NJROTC in Week 3 to secure a 3 - 0 record that will carry them through the first half of the season, with their next 2 weeks being byes. In the 2024 New Shooter League, JFK finished the season with a 2 - 6 record. Their previous 2 victories this season were against Russell County JROTC and Nevada AFJROTC.
